HiJiffy is one of the best-known names in hotel chatbots, and for good reason. It's a mature platform with a strong presence in Europe.
But when we tested it on live hotel websites and compared real-world pricing, it became clear it isn't the right fit for every property, especially independent hotels that want simple, multilingual guest service without a large integration project.
This guide covers where HiJiffy is strong, where it falls short for independent hotels, and which alternatives are worth a look.
Full disclosure: this article is published by GuestLume, which is one of the alternatives on this list. We've tried to be fair about where each tool fits, including where GuestLume isn't the right choice.
Why hotels look for HiJiffy alternatives
Independent hotels usually start looking elsewhere for three reasons.
1. The real price is higher than the "from" price
HiJiffy publishes its plans openly, which is good practice. At the time of writing:
| Plan | Monthly price | Setup fee | What you get |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | €99/month | €99 (per 5 properties) | FAQ automation, website channel |
| Pro | €159/month | €399 | Adds generative AI chatbot, omnichannel inbox |
| Premium | €319/month | €599 | Adds PMS/CRM integration, WhatsApp campaigns, guest request management |
Those are starting prices, and actual quotes scale with property size. A Premium quote we reviewed for a mid-size resort came in at over $470 per month.
That's normal in hotel tech, but it matters. For an independent hotel, the tier that includes in-house guest request management can cost several times the headline price. (For a full breakdown of what hotel chatbots really cost, see our hotel chatbot pricing guide.)
2. The chat doesn't adapt to the guest's language
This was the most surprising finding.
We tested HiJiffy's chatbot on three live hotel websites in Asia, Europe and Australia. We started each chat in English and got accurate answers. Then we switched to German mid-conversation. All three kept replying in English.
As far as we could tell, the session language is set from the browser's locale when the chat opens. It doesn't follow the language the guest actually types. On another property, we opened the chat in French and in German and still got English replies.
For a hotel that hosts guests from Germany, Russia, China, Korea and the Middle East in the same week, that's a real gap. The guest who most needs help in their own language is often the one whose phone is set to English.
Try it yourself: open any hotel chatbot, ask a question in English, then ask the next one in another language. It takes 30 seconds and tells you a lot. We explain why this matters in why most hotel chatbots fail multilingual guests.
3. It's built for bigger operations
HiJiffy's strength is depth: PMS integration, omnichannel inboxes, campaigns and multi-property management. For a hotel group with a dedicated guest-communications team, that's valuable.
For a 60-room independent hotel, it can mean more setup, more screens, and more to manage than the front office has time for. In our testing, the guest-facing chat also felt busy, with several tabs and options shown before the guest could simply ask a question.
The best HiJiffy alternatives in 2026
1. GuestLume: best for independent hotels that want multilingual guest service without PMS integration
Best for: independent hotels and resorts, from under 100 rooms to 250+
GuestLume is an AI guest assistant that guests open by scanning a QR code in their room or through the hotel website. There's no app to install.
- Detects the guest's language in every message. If a guest switches from English to German mid-chat, the reply comes back in German.
- Captures guest requests (maintenance, housekeeping, amenities) and routes them to the front office, which acts as a single dispatcher.
- In-chat room service ordering with menu browsing, sent straight to F&B, with escalation alerts if an order isn't picked up.
- Promotes restaurant, spa and experience offers inside conversations.
- No PMS integration required. It runs alongside your existing system, so there's no sync to break and no billing disputes.
Pricing: Essential from $149/month (up to 100 rooms). Pro from $249/month (101–250 rooms). Enterprise is custom. A one-off setup service starts at $399, and there are no per-message AI charges for normal use.
Where it's not the right fit: GuestLume deliberately doesn't do PMS integration or live room-rate lookups. It sends booking questions to your booking engine. If you need the chatbot to modify reservations inside your PMS, look at Asksuite or Canary instead.
2. Asksuite: best for driving direct bookings
Best for: hotels focused on converting website visitors into bookings
Asksuite is the most-reviewed hotel chatbot on Hotel Tech Report and has won the chatbot category there for several years running. Its focus is reservations: it connects to hundreds of booking engines and guides guests through booking inside the chat.
Consider it if: direct bookings are your number-one goal and you have a booking engine it integrates with. Watch for: it's built around booking. In-stay service, such as housekeeping and room service requests, isn't its core.
3. Canary Technologies: best for North American hotels
Best for: mid-size and large hotels, especially in the US
Canary's AI webchat is part of a broader guest management platform that includes digital check-in, upselling and payments. It's highly rated and strongest in North America.
Consider it if: you want messaging bundled with check-in and payment tools under one vendor. Watch for: you're buying into a wider platform, which is more than a chatbot if that's all you need.
4. Akia: best for small hotels focused on messaging
Best for: smaller properties that want automated guest texting
Akia is popular with small hotels for timed pre-arrival and check-out messages and contactless registration.
Consider it if: your priority is automated SMS/messaging through the guest journey. Watch for: it's messaging-led, so check how it handles free-form AI questions in multiple languages.
5. Runnr.ai: best for WhatsApp-first hotels
Best for: hotels whose guests mostly contact them on WhatsApp
Runnr.ai runs its virtual concierge through WhatsApp, which is a strong fit in markets where guests live in the app.
Consider it if: your guests already message you on WhatsApp. Watch for: in markets where WhatsApp isn't dominant (Thailand, for example, leans on LINE), a WhatsApp-only approach can miss guests.

How to choose: five questions to ask every vendor
Before you sign with anyone, ask these in the demo:
- "Switch languages mid-conversation. Does the reply follow?" Watch it happen live.
- "What's my total monthly price for my room count, with the features I actually need?" Not the "from" price.
- "What happens when the AI doesn't know the answer?" You want a clean handover to staff, not a made-up reply.
- "How do guest requests reach my team, and what happens if nobody picks one up?" Escalation matters most at 11pm.
- "Can I be live without a PMS integration project?" For many independent hotels, that decides it.
The bottom line
HiJiffy is a solid platform, and hotel groups that need deep PMS integration and an omnichannel inbox should keep it on their shortlist.
If you're an independent hotel that mainly wants guests answered accurately in their own language, requests routed to the right team, and more F&B and spa revenue, you have simpler and often cheaper options. That's the gap GuestLume was built for.

How much does HiJiffy cost? HiJiffy's public plans start at €99/month (Basic), €159/month (Pro) and €319/month (Premium), plus setup fees of €99–€599. Actual quotes depend on property size and can be significantly higher than the starting price.
Does HiJiffy support multiple languages? Yes, HiJiffy supports multiple languages. In our tests on live hotel websites, however, the chat stayed in the language set at the start of the session and didn't switch when the guest typed in a different language.
Do I need PMS integration for a hotel chatbot? Not necessarily. Integration lets a chatbot read or change reservations, but it adds cost, setup time and sync risk. Many independent hotels get most of the value, including answering questions, routing requests and room service, from a chatbot that runs alongside their PMS.
